Laura Linney is an American actor, who became popular for her portrayal of vulnerable but strong characters. Her father was a renowned playwright. However, she was raised as an all-only child by a single mom and nurse. During the summers when she was with her father Linney was able to develop a passion for the theatre. Her first stage experience was initially through Brown University then at Juilliard School. Within a mere two months after graduating she began her Broadway-based career. In the following year, she made her debut in film and television. She has been featured on a number of television, film and stage shows since that time. She has been awarded numerous prizes during her professional career. They include the four Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, three Academy Award Nominations, and five Tony Award Nominations. Though she was awarded numerous prizes over the years, theater was always her primary interest.
