April Lockhart
April Lockhart, born in 1995 on the 4th day of July, began taking piano and guitar lessons from age seven. The passion for writing songs was ignited. April's first song was Different which she composed at the age of 12. When she was 14 April, she spent a lot of time writing and honed her music skills. In the following months, April started to take trips across NY and LA together with her father so that they could both write songs. April began also to incorporate different topics related to some of her peers who are dealing with issues such as peer pressure disabilities and even teens who commit suicide through the songs"Take" my Hand. Lockhart has her own fan base and works as an online lifestyle blogger for the well-known Ilia clean beauty brand. She was born without her left hand, and it's part of her story, but that's not the entire story. Lockhart's Instagram account doesn't ignore her disability. It also doesn't insist on the issue. The point? The message? That we each contain multitudes, that our physical and identity bodies aren't what they seem. Lockhart is interviewed via video in Nashville. "I don't wish for it to dictate my personal life. I do not want to be only recognized as an expert in disabilities. My day-today life is not directly affected by disability. I go about my regular day-to-day life and discover my own solutions to issues. This is also part of my personality, and that it is something to be talked about. Lockhart is a huge example to other women regarding self-acceptance. Still, she acknowledges going through phases of insecurity with her body, and also feeling uncomfortable wearing some clothing types that exposed her arms. She now wears any outfit she likes and uploads photos on Facebook in awe. Self-love she said is a kind of journey. "I believe that you'll ever get in that place," she said. The same is true for everybody, no matter what their levels of anxiety. It's essential to have those that know and appreciate the way you feel. They'll be the ones asking you: What do you think about?
